Fruit Slushies, Slush Puppies, Slurpees or whatever you call them. They truly bring back many childhood memories. I couldn’t pass a slushie machine as a child without wanting one, although that’s probably got something to do with all the added sugar and E numbers making them so addictive. I don’t know what it is about iced drinks and desserts but I’ve always loved them, I even remember as a kid freezing tubs of fresh orange juice overnight and chipping away at it the next morning with a spoon and throwing a Cadburys cream egg in the freezer because… well why not! Frozen drinks and desserts are the best so here is my healthy version of a childhood favourite. How to Make Real Fruit Slushies Without a Slushie Machine
Strawberry and Lime Slushie
Recipe makes 1 Slushie
Ingredients
200g x Ice Cubes (Crushed)
100g x Strawberries
1 x Lime (Juice only)
40 – 60ml x Water
Lemon and Blueberry Slushie
Ingredients
200g x Ice Cubes (Crushed)
100g x Blueberries
1 x Lemon (Juice only)
40 – 60ml x Water
Method
You will need a blender to make this recipe.
1. Start by weighing out all of your ingredients. You can use fresh or frozen fruit for these recipes.
2. Crush the ice cubes by putting them into a clean tea towel and smashing them with a rolling pin. This is not essential but its extremely fun and takes some of the stress off your blender.
3. Place all ingredients apart from the water into the blender and blitz stopping every 10 seconds to scrape down the sides, adding water if needed to loosen it up. I find it usually takes 40 – 60ml of water. Keep repeating this until its as smooth as you like it.
Tips – Add sugar or sweetener of your choice if you need to taste. Get creative! You can do this with almost any fruit you like and for an adult version add a shot of your favourite spirit to get the party started.
Enjoy!
