How to Make the Perfect Full English Breakfast
Full English Breakfast
Ingredients (Serves 2–3)
4–6 good quality pork sausages
4–6 rashers smoked back bacon
2–3 slices black pudding
2–3 large flat mushrooms
1 handful cherry tomatoes
1 tin baked beans
2–3 eggs
2–3 slices bread (for fried bread)
Butter
Olive oil
Fresh thyme (optional)
Garlic (2–3 cloves, sliced)
Salt & black pepper
Fresh chives (optional, for garnish)
Method
Preheat your oven to 200°C (fan). This method uses the oven to cook most components, making it easier to manage and ensuring everything stays hot.
Place the sausages and bacon onto a large baking tray.No need to add oil, the fat from the meat will render down as it cooks.
On a separate tray (or section of the same tray):
Add whole cherry tomatoes
Trim mushrooms (optional for presentation)
Top mushrooms with butter, garlic, thyme and season with salt and black pepper.
Drizzle the tomatoes lightly with olive oil and season.
Place everything in the oven and cook until the sausages and bacon are fully cooked through (around 20–25 minutes).
Heat a frying pan over medium heat with a little oil.
Add the black pudding and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until crispy. Once done, transfer it to the oven tray to keep warm.
Add the baked beans to a small pan and stir in a knob of butter and a grind of black pepper.
In the same pan, add butter to any leftover oil.
Crack in the eggs and cook over low heat for soft, runny yolks. Adjust to your preference:
Higher heat = crispy edges
Flip for fully cooked yolks
Add more oil or fat to the pan.
Fry slices of bread until golden and crispy on both sides.Don’t be shy with the oil, this is not a health food.
Serve up and finish with a sprinkle of fresh chives for a bit of colour.
Final Thoughts
Everyone has their own version of a full English breakfast. This is mine, and it works every time, especially when cooking for a group.
If you’d add anything different, let me know. I’m always curious how others build their fry-up!
