Method

  1. Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (fan). This method uses the oven to cook most components, making it easier to manage and ensuring everything stays hot.

  2. Step 2

Place the sausages (4 sausages) and bacon (4 rashers) onto a large baking tray. No need to add oil, the fat from the meat will render down as it cooks.

  3. Step 3

On a separate tray (or section of the same tray): Add whole cherry tomatoes, trim mushrooms (2 mushrooms) (optional for presentation).

  4. Step 4

Top mushrooms (2 mushrooms) with butter, garlic, thyme and season with salt and black pepper.

  5. Step 5

Drizzle the tomatoes lightly with olive oil and season.

  6. Step 6

Place everything in the oven and cook until the sausages (4 sausages) and bacon (4 rashers) are fully cooked through (around 20-25 minutes).

  7. Step 7

Heat a frying pan over medium heat with a little oil.

  8. Step 8

Add the black pudding (2 slices) and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until crispy. Once done, transfer it to the oven tray to keep warm.

  9. Step 9

Add the baked beans (1 can) to a small pan and stir in a knob of butter and a grind of black pepper.

  10. Step 10

In the same pan, add butter to any leftover oil.

  11. Step 11

Crack in the eggs (2) and cook over low heat for soft, runny yolks. Adjust to your preference: Higher heat = crispy edges, flip for fully cooked yolks.

  12. Step 12

Add more oil or fat to the pan.

  13. Step 13

Fry slices of bread (2 slices) until golden and crispy on both sides. Don't be shy with the oil, this is not a health food.

  14. Step 14

Serve up and finish with a sprinkle of fresh chives for a bit of colour.

  15. Step 15

    Final Thoughts.

  16. Step 16

Everyone has their own version of a full English breakfast. This is mine, and it works every time, especially when cooking for a group.

  17. Step 17

If you'd add anything different, let me know. I'm always curious how others build their fry-up.

Questions people ask

How long does full english breakfast take?

About 45 min from start to finish, of which 15 min is prep and 28 min is cooking. That figure is worked out from the method rather than timed with a stopwatch, so give yourself a little more the first time.

How much does this make?

The original recipe did not state a yield, so nothing has been invented for it. The scale control on the recipe card multiplies the quantities instead, which is the honest version of the same thing.

Can I see the ingredients in ounces and pints?

Yes. The metric and imperial switch on the recipe card converts every quantity, rounded to amounts you can actually weigh or measure rather than to four decimal places. Your choice is remembered for every recipe on the site.
